How can therapy help me?

Therapy can offer support, problem-solving skills and better ways to cope with depression, anxiety, relationship troubles, grief, stress and more. It can also give you a fresh perspective on a difficult problem, or point you toward a solution.

Do I really need therapy? I can usually handle my problems.

Everyone goes through hard times, and there's nothing wrong with seeking extra support when you need it. Therapy gives you tools to avoid triggers, redirect damaging patterns, and face whatever challenges come your way.

What is therapy like?

Each person's goals are different, so therapy is too. In general, we'll talk about what's happening in your life now, your history as it relates to the issue, and your progress since the last session. Sessions are usually weekly.

Do you take insurance?

Services may be covered in full or in part by your health insurance or employee benefit plan. Ask your carrier: do I have mental health benefits, what's my deductible, how many sessions are covered, how much is covered per session, and do I need approval from my doctor?

What about medication vs. psychotherapy?

Medication alone can't solve the deeper causes of emotional distress. Therapy looks at the causes and the patterns that hold us back. Working with your doctor, you can decide what's best for you, and sometimes that's both.

Is what we talk about confidential?

Yes. Nothing you share is released without your written permission. The only exceptions are the ones the law requires: suspected abuse or neglect of a child, adult or elder, and a serious risk of harm to yourself or someone else.
